Gauteng Dept of Community Safety
In June 2019, Khabu Consulting, a digital agency based in East London and Johannesburg, asked me to join their team of consultants. The agency works with the South African government using freelancers or consultants. They were looking for a social media manager to assist the Gauteng Department of Community Safety with their social media platforms. I agreed to assist them and met the department's communication's team on 7 July 2019.
One of the major areas the department was struggling with was engagement and pushing their campaign #OkaeMolau which was aimed at ensuring that citizens and the law enforcement teams work together to ensure safety in the province. During the presentation , I touched on a number of factors to push their social media footprint and increase engagement. Some of the issues we touched on were: Influencers
Strong internal social media push (ie MEC, directors had to
push more online)
Use of short copy, strong hashtags and visual content
Social Media Advertising
Pushing conversations through questions and engaging on
topics with the community.
The meeting yielded a positive outcome as members of the Department's communication team asked for the presentation. For me, the experience was eye-opening as it exposed me to working with government.
